Jerusalem Sabbatical

I originally created my blog to post my reflections on my sabbatical experience in Jerusalem in 2006. I have also used it to post my thoughts and ideas about being a church for the next generation. Now I hope to use it to blog about my third time in Israel, volunteering with Bridges for Peace!

Photos: saying goodbye to my dear friends, Larry and Mary Bennett, at the close of work on Friday. There wasn’t a dry eye in the food bank; they endeared themselves to all of us since they arrived three months ago, and life is not the same now without them--both on the floor of the food bank and on our home repair jobs. Larry and Mary were the first people I met, after the BFP volunteer coordinator, when I first arrived here at Bridges for Peace. They also lived here at headquarters, and we did everything together. They showed me how to shop in the shuk, ride the buses, where the churches are, where to get a haircut--all the practical things of life. Their commitment to Christ, and to the Jewish people and nation, is deep and real and vibrant. This was their second volunteer experience with BFP and they are already planning their third sometime next year. Not bad--for being 70! I will face a similar farewell when I finish my sabbatical here next month. I am not looking forward to that day at all!
